What if today was “lights out?”

Read Lights Out in The Expanding Universe #SpaceOpera #NewRelease by @KayelleAllenIf you knew this was your last day to live, what would you do? Would you face the end with a clear conscience? Would you fight for one more day?
Look for that person you wronged and make it right? Run away? Turn and fight? What would you do?

In Lights Out by Kayelle Allen, the hero knows his end is near. Instead of running, Tornahdo makes a choice. He will face death with a clear conscience and the knowledge that his death will serve mankind. He will join…
GHOST CORPS

He can save mankind. After he does one important thing. Die.

Join the Ghost Corps, they said. You’ll live forever, they said. You’ll save mankind, they said. They didn’t say that to do it, first he had to die.

When Tornahdo signs on the dotted line, he puts his life into the steady hands of the mighty Ghost Corps. Three grisly deaths and three agonizing resurrections later, he’s assigned duty on Enderium Six.

He’s facing his most dangerous mission yet, the very reason the corps exists.

Do they expect him to win? Fat chance. Tornahdo and his team are already dead and this mission is codenamed “Lights Out.” No, there’s more to this than he can see.

To discover the truth, he must face an unbeatable, unkillable enemy, and this time–somehow–find a way to keep himself alive…

Excerpt, Lights Out by Kayelle Allen

The air reeked of antiseptic and starch stiffened the pillowcase. If only the mind-numbing jabbering would stop.

Tornahdo pried open his eyes. The flattened blood bag above him, stenciled equipment and gray walls screamed military hospital.

He’d died. Again.

Spanish curses slipped out. His abuela would’ve taken a switch to him. He made the sign of the cross and kissed his fingertips.

After yanking the tube out of his arm, he pressed a thumb over the entry point. Thankfully, this time, he wasn’t writhing on the floor in agony. Well, not yet.

A faceless android in a Ghost Corps uniform loomed over a bank of equipment displaying Tornahdo’s name and vitals. First impression was right. Military hospital.

The weapons-grade yapping continued.

“Did you hear?” a youthful voice bragged. “He killed six of ’em last night.”

“Yeah, but they don’t stay dead. They never do.”

“If Ultras didn’t come back to life, their plasma wouldn’t bring our own people back.”

The transfusion of enemy blood healed the hole in Tornahdo’s arm in seconds. He thumbed off the red smear and rolled over on the gurney.

An open door led to a sink and toilet built to let gravity do its work. Which meant this was a planet. You hadn’t lived until you were in space, floating in zero gravity while your body’s final twitches sent your corpse spinning.

Notices on the wall confirmed this was San Xavier in the Colonies of Man. Same place he’d bought it the first time.

This was getting old.

BLURB:

There’s coyote trouble in the canyon. One coyote, to be specific. A male. He’s been creating havoc in the small rural community of Pine Valley — enough havoc it’s time to call in the Feds.

The S.O.S, U.S. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, Special Outreach Services Division, investigates crimes involving shifters. Special Agent Kinsey is the absolute expert on coyote shifters. Because she is one. And Greg expects nothing less than the very best.

Life is about to get interesting in Pine Valley…

EXCERPT:

She tried to resist. Really. She did. But then he lowered his head to envelop her mouth with his lips, and she was lost. He tasted like sin and sex and a wild romp in the woods on a moonlight night. She could feel the blood pounding in her veins, her inner coyote stirring as it recognized its mate. Oh yeah. She wanted him, wanted him now and forever in that sappy stupid way you read about in women’s magazine quizzes.

She quit fighting his hold on her, and opened her mouth, inviting him to ravish her. He took instant advantage, devouring her lips with a fierce intensity that left her knees weak.

He’d always been able to do that, to walk into her personal space and make her melt. Well, this time it was going to be different. Sure, she wanted him, but that didn’t mean she had to give her very self up to him. It just meant she wanted to screw him, use him to satisfy her baser animal urges.

A tiny part of her mind objected, tried to tell her this was a bad idea, that she’d regret it, but she closed that voice firmly away in a compartment where she could ignore it. She was going to use Greg to satisfy her own carnal desires, and haul him back to D.C. to face Frederick’s wrath. Ex-operatives were not supposed to go out and cause problems in the human world.

This time she’d be the one to claim she was only doing her job, nothing personal. His hand brushed the sensitive skin just above the first button on her uniform, and she stopped thinking altogether.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I just LOVE what this cover says!

Pre Release is September 21st, available everywhere September 28th.

Blurb:

Bikers don’t do forever, right? Her perfect match! So how did it all go so very wrong?

Fiona really wasn’t in the market for a lover or a partner or some guy to give her a sappy sweet happily ever after. Been there, done that, got the scars to prove it. She just wanted a nice one-night stand. She planned to be long gone come breakfast time.

When she saw that gorgeous cowboy ride up on his Harley, she figured it was her lucky day. Bikers don’t do forever, right? Her perfect match! They could tell each other a few lies, scratch each other’s itches and then go their separate ways. The last thing she needed was to hook up with some guy she’d smack headlong into at church the next day.

Simple, right? So how did it all go so very wrong?

Tex – Dixie Reapers MC # 6

Tex — I made a mistake fifteen years ago, one that could have landed my ass in jail. Instead, ITex Cover Small made a deal. I signed away the rights to a child I’d never see, and then I joined the Army, putting the Dixie Reapers and my life in Alabama firmly in my rearview. But now I’m back, and I can’t help but wonder what happened to my son or daughter. What I discover makes my blood run cold, and I vow to do anything in my power to save the daughter I’ve never met. I just didn’t count on rescuing two damsels, or that the second one would look at me with haunted eyes that would make me do something stupid. I’d vowed to never let another woman f**k me over. I just hope I don’t regret letting Kalani into my home and into my life. She has trouble written all over her.
Kalani — I’ve been locked away my entire life. Hillview Asylum looks presentable enough on the outside, but I know firsthand about the horrors inside those walls. I’d always expected I’d die there, until he came. Not that he was coming for me. I’ve sheltered his daughter, Janessa, as much as possible, and in return I gained her trust and loyalty. I’d have never guessed those two things would save me. Or maybe they didn’t, because now I’m faced with a man who makes me want things I shouldn’t. His club suggested a marriage of convenience, to keep me out of Hillview, but I want more than just his name. I have no doubt this is going to end with my heart shattered at my feet, but he keeps the nightmares away. For the first time in my entire life, I feel safe. Protected. But now I want more… I want to be loved.

A Sneak Peek:

The truck came to a stop just outside a metal gate. It slid open, and the truck pulled through. I didn’t know where we were, and I didn’t care, as long as it wasn’t the asylum. Anything was better than being there. They drove down a winding road and stopped in front of a greenhouse. Flicker got out and opened the back door. Tex held me tight as he stepped out of the truck and began carrying me toward the house. Janessa walked at his side.

“Call the doc,” Tex said. “I think they both need to be checked out.”

My body tensed, and I struggled against him. No, no more doctors. Doctors caused pain. I could feel the panic rising inside me, my heart racing and my lungs feeling like they’d seize at any moment.

“Hey, easy,” Tex crooned at me. “No one’s going to hurt you.”

“Doctors do bad things,” Janessa said softly. “Especially to Kalani.”

Tex looked down at me and gave a slight nod. “All right. No doctors. Not for tonight anyway.”

“Where are you going to put them?” Flicker asked. “Only two of the bedrooms are furnished.”

“Kalani and I can share,” Janessa said.

Tex carried me down a short hall and stepped into a blue bedroom. He eased me down onto the bed, and I winced as pain shot through me again. Janessa moved around to the other side of the bed and crawled in next to me. She stayed close, but not near enough that she’d hurt me.

“You’re safe here,” Tex said. “No one can get into the compound without our permission.”

“Who are you?” I asked.

He smiled a little. “We’re Dixie Reapers, and we take care of our own.”

“But I’m not one of you. I don’t belong to anyone.”

He glanced at his daughter. “She thinks you belong to her, and since she’s mine, I guess that makes you mine too.”

A strange warmth worked its way through me at his words. I’d never been anyone’s before, but as his gaze settled on me again, I decided I didn’t mind being called his. With the bedroom lights on, I could see more details of the men who had rescued us. They were each handsome in their own way, but Tex took my breath away. I’d never considered a man attractive before, not when I knew what they were capable of, but these men had risked their lives to save us. And that made them different.

Short. Erotic. Sweet. Harley’s other half would probably say those words describe her, but they also describe her books. When Harley is writing, her motto is the hotter the better. Off the charts sex, commanding men, and the women who can’t deny them. If you want men who talk dirty, are sexy as hell, and take what they want, then you’ve come to the right place.

Our attraction unleashes a perfect storm…

I’m Stormy Weathers. My love life on Earth is one natural disaster after the other. I’m attracted to bad boys, rebels, commitment-phobes. In a crowd of choirboys, I’ll manage to find the jerk. All I want is a man who’ll love me and my young son, so I’m going to an icy planet to become an alien’s mail-order bride. This time will be different! The chemistry I feel with Romando is electric. It doesn’t matter what my sister or her mate or their tribe says, mutual attraction this strong can’t be wrong, so I’ll do anything to get him…

I’m Romando, an outcast in my own tribe. One rash, angry act turned me into a pariah and almost got me banished. But what everyone resents the most is that I’m one of the lucky few who’ll be getting a mate. The instant Stormy Weathers blows into Dakon with the other Earth females, my horns tingle. She is meant for me, but I resist the instinct to claim her. You see, she’s related to my nemesis responsible for my outcast state. Honor and pride dictate that I reject her as a suitable mate before she undermines my good intentions. If only I could get her out of my mind…

Alien Intention Excerpt

Holy alien hotness. I couldn’t stop staring at the brooding Dakonian. Leaning against the wall apart from the others, he didn’t mingle and jostle with the rest. Dark, nearly black, waist-length hair swept back from a widow’s peak to reveal pronounced dark brown, leathery horns. He caught me looking at him, and they pulsed!

He stood, literally and figuratively, horns above the others; he was one of the tallest men in the room and the sexiest. A buckskin-like tunic stretched across a broad chest and rippling abs before blending into leggings of the same material to mold long, powerful thighs. The beads and shells fringing the hem of his tunic would have looked silly on other men but, on him, heightened his masculinity, his alienness. It was like he’d wanted to look his best and had dressed up for the occasion—which none of the others had bothered to. Or maybe the adornment signified some special status? Maybe he was a like a tribe leader or something?

“You don’t want Romando, trust me. You came here for a fresh start, remember?” My sister had warned me off him when she noticed my interest.

Romando. A romantic, manly name. And those eyes! They were so brooding, so mysterious. My stomach fluttered.

Sunny meant well, but she and I didn’t go for the same type. She preferred quiet, shy, nice guys. Boring. I had to give her credit this time. She’d done okay with Darq. He had that alien sex appeal going on, although, again, he struck me as sweet. If you brought an alien home to meet Mom and Dad, Darq would be the one they would approve of.

Romando would have gotten me grounded. He was seven-and-a-half feet of alien attitude, captured in an I-don’t-give-a-damn shrug.

Yeah, yeah, I came here to make better choices, but was Romando such a bad one? Weren’t all the Dakonians supposed to be good guys? Loyal, appreciative, family-oriented?

I snuck another peek. Oh baby. I fanned my hot face with one hand and clutched Devon’s with the other. The moment Romando and I made eye contact, my body felt as if it could melt into a puddle of goo. Standing apart from the others, he had an aura of confidence, like he would do whatever he wanted no matter what anybody else thought. He did things his way. Cue Frank Sinatra.

Oh please, pick me. According to my sister and the head alien, Enoki, the men did the choosing. How traditional. How quaint. How…frustrating!

I sought Romando’s gaze, gave a little wave, and smiled. He didn’t smile back, but his eyes smoldered like two hot coals. His horns pulsed. Yep, those babies were throbbing.

I’d screwed up in the past, had gotten involved with the wrong sort of man, but you had to kiss some frogs before you found your prince, right? I’d always believed soul mates existed, that we were all one half of a pair. I’d mistakenly thought I’d met my true love before, but Romando was the real deal. I could feel it. Chemistry this intense couldn’t be wrong.

“If a man does not meet with your approval, you may refuse him, and he will pick somebody else,” Enoki said.

My sister elbowed Darq, who whispered to a man while gesturing to me. I had a bad feeling they were playing matchmaker.

“Mom, what’s happening now?” Devon whispered.

“We’re going to meet Mom’s alien,” I murmured and squeezed his hand.

I stared at my reflection in the mirror and gave myself an eight out of ten. All those late nights were finally taking a toll. Would I give them up? Hell no! Life was a never-ending party, and the guest list changed every day. I liked it that way. Variety is the spice of life after all.

But right now, I needed to do damage control. I read somewhere that the eyes are the mirror of the soul. If that was true then my soul must be puffy, wrinkled, and bloodshot. It wasn’t a good look. Thank God for eye drops. A few in each eye made my whites pop. I practiced my sultry green stare in the mirror. Not bad, but the bags had to go. I reached for the Preparation H and applied it liberally. My sister swears by the stuff.

I’d showered and shaved at home, but my hair needed a redo. My trademark look is a messy bedhead, black locks flying every which way. I don’t like to disappoint the fans and it’s easy enough to get the look. It’s all about a good haircut and a few styling tricks, like gel.

I stepped back from the mirror to check out my body. No problems there. Six feet, two inches of lean muscle thanks to an exercise routine that keeps me camera ready. No matter how late I go to bed, I wake up early and use the small gym in my apartment building. A good workout always makes me feel better. Today, we’re shooting early, so I did a short routine, just long enough to break a sweat and get my blood pumping. Then it was SSME, and I’m not talking kinky sex. Shower, shave, moisturize, enema. I like to be clean for the close-up shots.

Yeah, I bare it all, but it’s all for the sake of art. I’m not kidding. One of my first jobs when I came to LA was as an artist’s model. At first, because of my strict upbringing, I was uncomfortable posing nude, but eventually I realized that the human body is a beautiful thing. It was a liberating experience.

Today, I’ve convinced myself that filming is an art form. There are thousands, maybe millions of guys out there staring at my naked body. What I do prompts an emotional response and gives them pleasure, just like other art forms. Art is in the eye of the beholder, after all. It’s one hell of an ego trip.
