Before I go, here’s the blurb for Stranded on Earth -

Title:  Stranded On Earth

Author:  Anne Kane

Release Date:  July 18, 2008.

Blurb:

Liisa’s passion is books, the kind they used to print when humanity still inhabited Earth. The only authentic collection in the galaxy is located in a museum housed on Old Earth. Needing a break from work, she came to Union Station to indulge in an orgy of reading. Of course, she didn’t count on falling asleep in the library and missing the last flight off-planet before the winter season suspended interstellar traffic.

Jake is a sergeant in the Space Militia. He lost the draw this year and stayed behind when Earth was evacuated for the winter. It’s his job to make sure the mutant life forms spawned by the nuke wars don’t break through the museum’s barrier. He’s resigned himself to a long, lonely winter fighting mutants and boredom.

When he discovers he’s not alone on the frigid remnants of man’s home world, he knows he should be a gentleman and keep his hands to himself, but spring is a long way off and Liisa’s charms are hard to resist.

Well I’ve certainly been busy for the last week. The edits for Stranded on Earth are done. I got the preliminary on the cover art and it’s gorgeous. Karen Fox is the cover artist and she’s talented!  I also got the contract in the mail from Red Sage for Kellen’s Conquest. There was a real cheque in there! I think I’m going to photo copy it and put it up on the wall. My first earnings as an author. Whoooohooo. Of course, there’s still editing to do on that one as well.

I’m heading out camping tomorrow morning so I won’t be doing any net-surfing for a week or so. Not alot of internet cafes in the Canadian backcountry. I will be taking my laptop so I won’t suffer too much from writers withdrawal LOL.

Yikes! I just found out that my story, Stranded on Earth, has  had the release date moved up from July 25th to July 18th. That gives me less than a month and I’m going to be away for part of that, so I’ve asked Fiona Jayde, one of my favoirte authors as well as a great website designer, to set up the Website for me.  Once it’s up she’s going to show me how to update it and I’ll go from there. Sometimes you just have to admit you’re not a super hero and you need help. LOL.   I’ve used all that time I freed up to write a short encounter for this month’s Cheeky Changeling. It’s a sneak peek at the characters from my story. Hope you drop by the Changeling Press website and check it out. I’ll post the link when it’s up.

Cheers!

Anne

I know, I’m not a child and dancing around is really not very mature, but check this out… my name in print!

A snowball starts slow and picks up speed and size as it rolls along. That’s what my writing feels like right now. As you know, I sold my first short story to Changeling Press a couple of weeks ago. Then on Friday I found out I won the RED SAGE writing contest!  That’s right – I won – first place! They have offered me a contract to publish the book, in print in a Secrets anthology next year. Of course, not being an idiot, I accepted. They are giving me a$500 advance on royalties, so somehow that makes it feel like I’m a real, ohmygod author! Whoooohooo…….

Of course, those were the only two things I’d finished since I got serious and started to write last fall. I have a couple started, a couple of interesting ideas and one half finished story about a Selkie in the modern world. Right now, I’m going to go have another glass of wine and see if I can get the darn website to load…

Cheers! Anne

Friday night in my world isn’t nearly as exciting as you might think. It’s raining yet again, so I’m inside playing with the web page design. It’s not as hard as I thought, especially since elder son explained the basics to me.  I finished the first edit on my story. I added another full chapter so there goes the word count! But my editor said she liked it so I’m probably not going to get my wrist slapped too hard.

My first book is going to be released on July 25th! That means I’d better get my act in gear and get ready. I  have edits, and a chapter to add, and a website to build and more edits, and a happy dance to do! This is going to be the best summer ever!

It’s Friday. I’m still new to this so now I need to learn how to add some interesting things to this sight. Bear with me and I’ll see what I can do.  I’ve been to the Library and got some books out on web building, so that’s my next project. I waffle between trying to do it myself and just getting someone to do it for me. But if you know me at all, you know I’m just a wee bit stubborn so I’m off to read about site building.

:)

BTW – That’s Jeff up there on the desk. He’s my literary critic.

Wow! My very first blog. I am an aspiring author and I made my first sale on Monday. Who said Mondays were all bad? Changeling Press offered me a contract for  my short story ‘Stranded on Earth’.  Of course I knew it was a terrific story, so I wasn’t surprised. ( Yeah right, Anyone want to buy ocean front property in Saskatoon?) I’m thrilled – Changeling is a wonderful publisher and I’m honoured that they want my work. Now I just have to finish the next story. And then the next one… And get myself a website…. And keep up with the day job…
